Advancing Diagnostic Services in Limerick
March 26th, 2026
Alliance Medical is proud to announce the expansion of its diagnostic services with the introduction of two important new offerings at the Bon Secours Ballysimon Limerick Hospital: PETCT and Breast Imaging. Advancing Diagnostic Services in Limerick, these developments mark a significant step forward in improving access to advanced healthcare services for patients across the Mid-West region.
The launch of the first PETCT scanner in the Mid-West represents a major milestone in cancer diagnostics. PETCT (Positron Emission Tomography–Computed Tomography) combines two powerful imaging technologies to provide highly detailed and accurate insights into the body. This allows clinicians to detect and monitor cancer more effectively, supporting earlier diagnosis and more informed treatment planning.
With this technology now fully operational, patients in the Mid-West no longer need to travel long distances to access this level of diagnostic imaging. This not only improves convenience but also enables more timely care, which can be critical in achieving better health outcomes.
In addition to PETCT, Alliance Medical has also launched a new dedicated Breast Imaging Service at the same location. This service is designed to enhance access to high-quality breast diagnostics in a modern, patient-centred environment. By supporting earlier detection and timely assessment, the service plays a vital role in improving outcomes for patients and advancing women’s health in the region.
Both of these developments have been made possible through Alliance Medical’s strong partnership with Bon Secours, working together to expand essential diagnostic services and meet the growing needs of local communities. The new facilities are located within the Clinical Services Hub in Towlerton, Ballysimon, Limerick, further strengthening the region’s healthcare infrastructure.
These advancements reflect Alliance Medical’s ongoing commitment to investing in innovative technologies and high-quality care. Alongside expanding services, the organisation continues to support important initiatives such as Daffodil Day, recently raising €6,470 for the Irish Cancer Society to help fund vital cancer services, research, and patient supports nationwide.
As Alliance Medical continues to grow its presence in the Mid-West, the focus remains on delivering accessible, accurate, and patient-focused diagnostic services that make a real difference in people’s lives.
